Focus and Scope

As a manifestation of our commitment to keep on developing Sharia and Law, Al-Ahkam is now accepting submissions in any area related to sharia and law. It covers textual and fieldwork with various perspectives of Islamic family law, Islamic economic law, Islam and gender discourse, and also legal drafting of Islamic civil law. However, recent issues are priority in publishing.

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.


This journal utilizes the LOCKSS system to create a distributed archiving system among participating libraries and permits those libraries to create permanent archives of the journal for purposes of preservation and restoration. More...

About the Journal

Al-Ahkam, Journal of Sharia and Law, is a peer-reviewed journal published by the Faculty of Sharia, Institut Agama Islam Negeri Surakarta. Al-Ahkam  is published twice a year (June and December). Al-Ahkam journal aims to facilitate and to disseminate an innovative and creative ideas of researchers, academicians and practitioners who concentrated in Sharia and Law. Al-Ahkam was registered as p-ISSN (2527-8169) and e-ISSN (2527-8150) at LIPI in 2016. Al-Ahkam has become a CrossRef member since 2016. Therefore, all articles published by Al-Ahkam will have Digital Object Identifier (DOI) number.
